Melody Phaneuf

Melody Phaneuf

Melody Phaneuf began artistic studies at Vesper George School of Art in Boston, Massachusetts. There, she came under the influence of two teachers, Robert Cormier and Robert Douglas Hunter, both rooted in the Boston School of painting. Phaneuf admired the excellence she saw–academic precision combined with the best practices of impressionism–and later apprenticed to work in this tradition with Robert Cormier at Fenway Studios in Boston. The rigorous training in drawing, painting and composition gave Phaneuf the fluency to communicate her artistic vision. Phaneuf is an award-winning artist, well known for her evocative still life, landscape, and portrait paintings. She has exhibited at The National Arts Club in New York City, Galerie Herouet in Paris, and with Art du Monde, in Japan. Her paintings are regularly on view at The Guild of Boston Artists in Boston, MA; North Shore Arts in Gloucester, MA; and Patricia Hutton Galleries in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Phaneuf maintains a studio at Fenway Studios in Boston, where she paints and holds workshops, continuing the Boston School lineage.
“My Still Lifes are expressive compositions arranged to evoke an emotion or communicate an idea. I love the color and pattern revealed by light and shadow, and
seek pleasing combinations that support the theme of the painting. I often draw inspiration from reading or from music heard, but just as often it is from
something seen, perhaps the way light transforms an ordinary object into one of great beauty. I embrace the way objects can symbolize concepts, and fully engage this potential to develop layers of meaning in my paintings.”
