Alan John Browne
Alan John Browne, born in 1949, is a representational painter working primarily in oils. Having been tutored from childhood in drawing and painting, he credits early teachers with having taught him the disciplines of learning. He is indebted to them for his early introduction and sensitivity toward the study of painting. To this day Alan continues to learn from and value the work and associations of contemporary teachers and artists. He states, “My paintings are impressions of a moment and place. A witness to truth and the vitality in nature, which I strive to express.” Of the awards Mr. Browne has received, the most coveted is the Richard Mitton Memorial Silver Medal from the last annual competitions of New England Artists. Some other awards also include The Grumbacher Gold Metal and the Frank W. Benson Memorial Award from the Guild of Boston Artists, the Joseph Rimini Memorial Award and the Bernard Corey Memorial Award from the Rockport Art Association, The Richard Milton Memorial Silver Metal from the N. E. Artists Competition, and the Cormier Palette Cup. Mr. Browne has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and he maintains a studio in the historic Fenway Studios.
